Project Aims

Our project aims to:

  • To explore and analyse the perception and the role of Cypriot diaspora in Britain in building peace in Cyprus through archival research collection, qualitative interviews, and the first large-n survey to be conducted among Cypriots in Britain.
  • To test a set of alternative hypotheses as to the drivers of individual and diaspora collective action focusing on the role of economic, political and psychological factors specifically focusing on (pre) conflict experience, community organizations and inclusive mediation.
  • To challenge the existing academic literature’s static binary depictions of diaspora engagement as either negative or positive by identifying areas of fluidity and transformation as well as alternative mechanisms of channelling positive contributions while countering the negative ones.
